Little Star Wars Fans Can Be One With the Force Thanks to Radio Flyer's Landspeeder!
Growing up in the early 80s, a majority of my childhood was spent playing with my younger brother’s Star Wars toys. Thanks to our over-indulging grandparents, my brother amassed quite the collection of Star Wars toys, including all the original figurines, AT-ATs, Millennium Falcon, X-Wing Starfighter, lightsabers, and more.
Hours upon hours were spent meticulously turning my brother’s room into a Star Wars museum, depicting mini scenes from the movie. Literally, no detailed was spared and, of course, we charged our parents admission to see our masterpiece. As the years passed, our Star War’s collection was slowly packed away and found its place in our attic. But that doesn’t stop me from reminiscing about that time, far-far away when a new movie comes out or when I pass by a Star Wars toy display in Toys-R-Us while shopping with my daughter.
I may be the only one who has this opinion, but seeing the updated and current versions of these toys, makes me a little sad. For me, there is something so much better (and special) to having played with the original toys. That is, until I saw an ad for the Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder.
O.M.G., my brother and I would have spent hours driving this iconic vehicle around our backyard if it had been available when we were kids. Probably in full Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker gear too. And yes, our grandparents would have definitely bought it for us. It was after the 80s and materialism was in full effect.
Debuting at Comic-Con, this officially licensed 2-seater model by Radio Flyer is the “first kid-sized Landspeeder you can drive”. Modeled after the sand-pocked and sun-faded X-34 craft from Star Wars: A New Hope, the Landspeeder is equipped with all the bells and whistles your little Star Wars fan could imagine – an interactive dashboard with lights and real movie sounds. Sadly, the only thing is doesn’t do true to the movie version is hover (well, except maybe in your little one's imagination). But hey, it’s pretty much the coolest Power Wheel vehicle I have ever
wanted seen. Seriously, I wish I was a kid again.
So how can you can your hands on this galactic cruiser hands for
yourself little one? Well, the Landspeeder will be sold exclusively through Toys-R-Us beginning September 5th. But you can actually pre-order one now for $499.00 and have it under your Christmas tree this year!
Price tag too high? Don’t despair. For fans of the Landspeeder on a budget, there is always the Star Wars Lego version, which retails for around $20 and also includes Obi-Wan, C-3PO, and a Tusken Raider mini Star Wars figurines. There is also a miniature desk version of the X-34 Landspeeder toy sold by Kenner.
Once again, the officially licensed Luke Skywalker Landspeeder will be available only at Toy R Us stores on September 5, 2017. Right now, no word has been given whether or not the vehicle will be a limited edition so it may be best to take advantage of the pre-order event going on now. You can also check out Radio Flyer’s teaser video on YouTube that features everything the Luke Skywalker Landspeeder can do.
